We provide students with the opportunity to learn the game of chess in a manner that develops Critical Thinking Skills™. Each week our coaches work with students to impart knowledge that ranges from the rules of the game, etiquette of play, understanding chess position, tactics, and strategic planning. Each lesson is divided into lecture and practice periods, with students exercising their new skills with their fellow classmates. We provide support beyond the classroom by allowing the students to access an online platform that lets them review key lessons, watch chess videos, play chess against the computer and classmates, and participate in tournaments. The platform has built in security measures to ensure the safety of the students and to limit any possible problems. Let’s play chess together.
Beginner classes teach students the chess moves through checkmate, the basic chess rules needed to play a game of chess.
Novice classes teach students basic tactics and openings, or the winning techniques most commonly known and used by chess players world wide of all levels. These techniques allow players to win their first rated game and will carry players up to, but probably not beyond, a rating of about 400.
Intermediate classes teach students opening fundamentals, opening theory, more advanced tactics such as color weakness, outposts, open files, etc. These are the tactics a player needs to know and advance beyond novice to reach more advanced levels of play. These techniques will carry a player over the 1000 hurdle.
